New atomic films from USA premiering in Brazil – Libbe HaLevy, Nuclear-Free Future Award winner from Los Angeles presents US films in Rio de Janeiro

In a few weeks, the International Uranium Film Festival (IUFF) will take place in Rio de Janeiro for the 12th time. From May 18 to 28, the in-the-world unique cinema fest about the atomic age will be showing 16 films from 15 countries including the United States in the Cinematheque of Rio’s prestigious Museum of Modern Art (MAM Rio).

Two highlights of the festival are the new US productions “Downwind” by Mark Shapiro and Douglas Brian Miller, featuring Martin Sheen,  Lewis Black and Michael Douglas and “Radioactive: The Women of Three Mile Island” by Heidi Hutner, featuring Jane Fonda. Both films have been nominated for the festival’s best documentary award.

To introduce both films the festival has invited a special guest from Los Angeles: Libbe HaLevy, producer and host of the weekly podcast/radio show Nuclear Hotseat who recently received the Nuclear-Free Future Award.

The 2010 founded International Uranium Film Festival (IUFF) is dedicated to all nuclear issues and the whole nuclear fuel chain, from uranium mining to nuclear waste, from nuclear war to nuclear accidents. Over the past 12 years, Uranium Film Festivals have not only been held in Rio, but also in several other countries and cities such as Berlin, New Delhi, New York, Washington DC, Window Rock and Santa Fe. Since 2016, when the International Uranium Film Festival was hosted in partnership with Hollywood star Kat Kramer at the famous Raleigh Studios in Los Angeles it is also known as Atomic Age Cinema Fest.
