A cry for peace from Romagna wounded but not bent by floods

On Sunday, May 21, 2023, a bus will leave from Forlì, Forlimpopoli and Cesena to join the marchers of the National Peace March Perugia-Assisi 2023 entitled: “Let’s Transform the Future!” with the theme of war in Europe, ongoing wars around the world and climate change as a global emergency.

Never more than this time will our commitment to peace be combined with one of the March’s national goals: climate change, with regard to which we are paying a very high price precisely in our Region and particularly in Romagna these days.

In addition to the cry for peace, we will strongly convey the feeling of the people who know how to face the most difficult trials and who come together in times of need and necessity.

We also pledge to march to:

support the bill establishing the “Department for Unarmed and Nonviolent Civilian Defense” as outlined in the bill presented in Parliament in December 2015;
call at the European level to establish and fund European Civil Peace Corps as proposed by Alexander Langer in 1994 and taken up in the Report adopted by the European Parliament on 17.05.1995, then followed by the recommendation of the European Parliament on 2.02.1999 and again by two feasibility studies;
call on the Italian government to sign and promote the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), which entered into force on Jan. 22, 2021.

Finally, our presence, in addition to wanting to recall the need for peace and to remember the people who have been affected by the floods of these days, requires us to loudly demand, “to shout out,” the importance of considering the issue of climate change as a priority and to call for investing resources and people to deal with it instead of mindlessly continuing to waste money on weapons and armaments.
