We interviewed Wilfredo Alfsen of World Without Wars Chile. A key and historic figure in the humanist movement in our country, he is currently part of the organization of the Third World March for Peace and Nonviolence, which will leave from San José de Costa Rica on 2 October (World Day of Nonviolence) to return to the same city on 5 January 2025, after traveling through the five continents.
It is expected to pass through Chile in December this year and activities are already being planned.
However, much more support is needed from individuals, universities, and organizations. If you want to know more about the Third March, you can find lots of information at theworldmarch.org. If you or your organization would like to join or – even better – participate, you can do so by filling in this form.
The Third World March is organised by World Without Wars and Violence to raise awareness of the need to build a universal non-violent society in which we as a species have evolved to the point where violence in all its manifestations is no longer a valid alternative. Violence is a disease that affects human beings in all their activities, including family activities.
We need the highest level of support from the Ministry of Education, municipalities, universities, and schools for non-violence education, understanding that just as violence can be learned, so can non-violence.
In Chile, the following preliminary activities are planned:
In Santiago:
Reception of the March by representatives of the Executive Power (tentatively by President Boric himself).
Reception of the march by the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Chile.
Reception by the ecclesiastical authorities (Archbishopric and Bishopric of the Evangelical Pentecostal Church).
Forum at the USACH or University Academy of Christian Humanism.
In Valparaiso:
Reception of the march by the President of the Chamber of Deputies.
Of course, you can help to organize the march by signing up on the website and spreading the word via radio and social networks.
