Recipients Announced: 2024 War Abolisher Awards

World BEYOND War has announced four recipients of 2024 War Abolisher Awards. They are:

Combatants for Peace,
No to War – No to NATO,
Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union,
Susan Crane.

The awardees are honored for their body of work directly supporting one or more of the three segments of World BEYOND War’s strategy for reducing and eliminating war as outlined in the book A Global Security System, An Alternative to War. They are: Demilitarizing Security, Managing Conflict Without Violence, and Building a Culture of Peace.

World BEYOND War has given the 2024 Organizational War Abolisher Award to Combatants for Peace (CfP), a joint community of Palestinians and Israelis working in solidarity to end the occupation and all forms of oppression in Palestine and Israel. Guided by the values of nonviolent resistance, they are showing the world that there is another way.

World BEYOND War has given the 2024 Lifetime Organizational War Abolisher Award to No to War – No to NATO, an international network that has led the way in educating on alternatives to NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and in organizing protests, demonstrations, and creative actions opposing NATO militarism since 2009. No to War – No to NATO has been a big part of the planning of a counter-summit and rally held on July 6-7, 2024, in Washington, D.C.

World BEYOND War has given the 2024 Youth War Abolisher Award to Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union. In May, 2024, Trinity College agreed to fully divest from Israeli companies over the coming months. This victory followed a tent encampment protest on campus that was part of a movement at campuses in several countries, sparked by the media coverage of an encampment at Columbia University in New York.

World BEYOND War has given the 2024 David Hartsough Lifetime Individual War Abolisher Award to Susan Crane. She has done peace education and activism for decades, and has repeatedly gone to jail for justice. Crane is currently incarcerated in Germany as a result of her participation in a nonviolent protest at a German military base where the U.S. military keeps nuclear weapons in violation of the Nonproliferation Treaty, human decency, and basic common sense.
