On Sunday, July 21, 2024, Joe Biden withdrew from his re-election campaign after top Democrats, donors, close allies, and friends had pressured him relentlessly to step aside. On July 10, 2024, The New York Times published a letter to the editor titled “George Clooney: I Love Joe Biden. But We Need a New Nominee.”
President Biden announced that he would no longer seek re-election and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.

The process started on June 27, 2024, after the first presidential debate against former President Donald Trump, which led to Biden bowing out. Biden’s age and health issues during the debate clearly showed that he was not in the capacity to be re-elected as the President of the United States. Just this past Wednesday, President Biden tested positive for the coronavirus. In a statement, the White House said Biden is experiencing mild symptoms and plans to self-isolate at his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, while continuing to work.
