The urgent need to share

Some friends and I are organizing a photography exhibition entitled “Sharing will save the world“. I’ve noticed that it’s attracting continuously more interested people. This shows that women, children, and men are becoming sensitive to the idea of sharing and are increasingly curious.

By Pascal Brachet.

Human beings themselves created the difficult conditions they are now going through. Never in history has humanity found itself in the present situation with such a large population: the capacity to destroy itself with weapons of mass destruction. We are also experiencing a shocking disparity in the distribution of wealth. We urgently need to think about the need for change and work together to build a new civilization.

The only method that humanity has not yet tried is sharing. It is the only one that can guarantee lasting peace and justice.

All we need to do is make the right, constructive choices that will steer the future towards sharing, peace and justice on Earth.

Establishing peace has really become essential to our very survival on earth. At the root of this absence of peace lies injustice.

Economic injustice, injustice in respect for human rights, injustice in the opportunities offered, the increasingly obvious gap between rich and poor. Achieving peace therefore requires greater justice. But how can this be done? There is an economic system that has never been attempted on a human scale, a system based on the “principle of sharing”.

The idea is to extend to the whole of humanity the economic system that naturally exists in every healthy family: to each person, to each child, big or small, according to his or her needs, and according to the family’s overall wealth. To do this, I want to raise awareness of the importance of sharing through photos and the various activities accompanying the event. I’m using black and white photographs, most of which show faces and scenes from everyday life in emerging countries. They are presented by themes: hunger, greed, poverty, sharing, service, and greed.

Each photo is accompanied by a brief quotation – related to the notion of sharing – from men and women (e.g. Mahatma Gandhi, Epicurus, Mother Teresa, Leo Tolstoy, Jimmy Carter, Michael Gorbachev, Nelson Mandela) who have worked or are currently working in favor of humanity and a reorientation of priorities in the political, economic, social, cultural and spiritual spheres. Their commitment reflects and implements article 25a of the Declaration of Human Rights, which states that “everyone has the right to an adequate standard of living for himself and his family, including food, housing and clothing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control”.

Sharing is the key to solving our many problems. Sharing is the solution; it will bring happiness, security for all, and lasting peace. Humanity is increasingly demanding justice, freedom, and sharing, the only feasible way to achieve peace. All human beings seek unity while considering that everyone is unique in creation. Through the various speakers and activities surrounding the photography exhibition, such as a dance show, theatre, arts and crafts, a music concert, conferences, and activities for adults and children, we can cultivate both a sense of unity and a sense of solidarity.

All these activities foster diversity and unity and involve the public and visitors. We are all concerned with sharing and unity. The purpose of our existence is to create unity. This implies a radical change on the part of humanity. The tools I am proposing are just one way of getting there. They are a means of adopting a simpler and more sincere way of life, better adapted to the reality of the global situation.

All you have to do is to put a phrase on a wish tree or a word cloud.

We have many opportunities to do things together, whether in thought, word, or deed, to build a fairer and more harmonious world.
