Third World March for Peace and Nonviolence: First Stop in The Gambia

On Friday, December 6, the base team of the Third World March for Peace and Nonviolence made its debut in The Gambia, marking a historic moment. For the first time, this country hosted activities and welcomed the international team of the March.

The group, consisting of 19 participants, was received at the headquarters of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), where a press conference was held to present the initiative. The event, which began around 12:00 PM, drew local and national media as well as representatives from various student organizations.
Emmanuel D. Joof, Chairperson of the NHRC, opened the conference by emphasizing the importance of peace as a cornerstone for sustainable development in the country and warmly welcomed the international team. Subsequent speakers included Lamin Jawara, President of the Humanist Organisation – who organized the event – Safiyatou Joof, President of the Standstill Organisation, and Merry Massaquoi, representative of the Apple Tree School.
The day was further enriched by private discussions between the March team and the NHRC Chairperson, laying the foundation for a promising collaboration within the country.

This milestone event represents not only a significant step for the World March but also an opportunity to strengthen dialogue and initiatives promoting peace and nonviolence in The Gambia.
Among the highlights was the heartfelt speech by Nyima K. Bojang, a student at the Nna Kala Virtual Poetry Academy, whose words left a lasting impression on the audience.

A SPEECH ABOUT PEACE

PEACE is not just a word we speak, it is a way of living. It is the quiet strength in the midst of chaos, the calm within our hearts, and the unity that bings us together despite our differences. In a world that often seems divided, peace remains our common thread ,reminding us that we are all connected by the shared desire for love ,understanding and respect.

As we move forward, let us remember that peace begins witb each of us. it starts with the choice we make every day ,in how we treat one another, in the kindness we offer ,and in the way we embrace differences. Each act of compassion, every word of encouragement, and every moment of patience brings us closer to a peaceful world.
True peace is not just the absence of conflict, but the presence of harmony and respect. It is in our ability to listen, to forgive and to stand together. When we unite in the spirit of peace, we create a world where everyone has the chance to thrive, where every voice is heard and where love and understanding remains .

So let us be the change we wish to see .let us be the bearers of peace, sharing it in our communities, in our families and in our hearts. For in peace, we find the power to heal,to grow and to build a future where we all can live in harmony
